Knowle Hospital
The setting is Knowle Hospital, Fareham, which was Hampshire's purpose built 'lunatic asylum' in 1852.

The site is presently being developed as an 'ideal' village.

Through my photography, I attempt to capture the atmosphere of the place, seeing it as a container of images that evoke memory.

I record the traces left by past inhabitants, both patients and staff.

Some buildings had been left empty for ten years and this allowed the ravages of time to add to the melancholy loss.

Whilst exploring these feelings of loss I recognised that these images have become visual metaphors for mental disability.
