The Winchester Gallery is one of the 6 main exhibition venues participating in the 2008 Biennial which opens on October 3.
Our exhibition is called "Persistence of Vision:Memory Trails through the Latin American Left" which is the fascinating story of how revolutions used photography from the Mexican Revolution up to the new governments of Chavez and Lula, including the revolutions in Cuba, Nicaragua, El Salvador and stories of the 'disappeared' in Argentina and Guatamala. www.bpb.org.uk/2008 |

PORTRAIT PRIZE 2008
Submissions are now being invited for this prestigious international photographic portrait competition, which celebrates and promotes the very best in contemporary portrait photography. Entry is open to photographers from around the world, aged 18 and over.
The Photographic Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery has established a reputation for its diversity of photographic styles, encompassing editorial, reportage and fine art images submitted by a range of photographers, from gifted amateurs and photography students to professionals.
In the Prize's search for excellence, photographers are encouraged to interpret 'portrait' in its widest sense of 'photography' concerned with portraying people with an emphasis on their identity as individuals.'
This year, the winner of the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2008 will receive £12,000. In addition the judges, at their discretion, will award one or more cash prizes to the shortlisted photographers.
The Prize will also include the special Godfrey Argent Award, presented for the best portrait taken by a photographer aged 18 and 25. http:/www.npg.org.uk/photopr ... |

The Independent Photographers Gallery, is based in Battle, which is 1hr from Charing Cross and 15 minutes from Hastings, and Bexhill!.
IPG is building a resource for the region, which includes Hastings with its new University which will open soon. IPG is founder of the Terry O'Neill Award, which this year is being exhibited at Fulham Palace in London, after a very successful first year, where it was featured in Sunday Times Magazine, and is set to be featured again. Cockroach Diary and other stories brings together works spanning twenty-five years that convey a compelling sense of both the ordinary and the bizarre in British life. This major exhibition is the first survey show by Anna Fox, one of the most significant photographers to emerge from the new wave of British colour documentary of the 1980s.
