On returning to college as a mature student I gained a BTEC in General Art and Design. I then went on to graduate from The London College of Printing with a BA (Hons) Photography. I now live and work as a photographic artist on the Berkshire Downs. The experience of growing up in this rural landscape has had a profound affect on me; my visual perception of the world around me colours my state of well being and informs my artistic practice. Over the last three years I have produced two bodies of work concerned with issues of landscape and identity. Both were selected for national touring shows, which enabled the work to reach a large urban audience in galleries both in London and the Midlands. These exhibitions were reviewed in Art Monthly and The Independent on Sunday; my work has also been published in Shifting Horizons - women's landscape photography now. During 1998 and 1999 I spent much time assisting on the educational workshops at Duckspool in Somerset, with a wide range of photographers including, Fay Godwin, Martin Parr, John Davis, John Gotto and Mahri Mahr. This time was invaluable, both in the development of my own work and in gaining experience of workshop practice, critical discussion and portfolio viewing. I have also spent time spent assisting in the Zelda Cheatle Gallery, London. My recent work has been made using a large format camera and comprises of large scale colour prints and hand-made artists books. I am experienced in a wide range of photographic / computer aided disciplines from pin-hole cameras to digital imaging technology. I have worked to private commission, making work for specific environments and would welcome any further commissions either public or private that involved a photographic interpretation of space and ideas. |
