Gunilla Treen: Saffery Champness....the core dimensions of a company
Photography relies upon communication of ideas for its success and my interest in people at work and at play, led me to the Saffery Champness photographic competition. The challenge of illustrating the 7 'core dimensions' of this firm of accountants was enormous. My approach was to look at ways of visualising the abstract qualities, without the obvious 'company' connections. I found that early signs of these 'qualities' of Teamwork, Commitment, Insight, Innovation, Clarity, Consistency, Integrity and Identity, could be found in children. Studying the ways in which they played I then paired these images with the adult version, reflecting the broad client base of the company. The overall design of each pair, or group of 3, is vitally important. Most importantly each 'core value' must be communicated. I found that many of them were interrelated, Teamwork requiring Commitment; Insight leading to Innovation through Clarity, and so on. Coupled with this I found that certain images when paired differently, gave another 'core value'.
Twenty black and white sections were produced, to be exhibited around the country, this 150th Anniversary Year.
