For the past decade I have been photographing the work of self taught artists and the ways ordinary people seek to find visual forms of self- expression in their lives. I have discovered some remarkable individuals who devote most of their limited spare time and energy to their creative work. My pictures celebrate the creative strength to be found in the least likely places and by implication defend the right of all people to make their own forms of art.
