Caroline Rackham

Officers
For Year of the Artist, Caroline Rackham from
Mount Pleasant Media Workshop was artist in residence at the
Aldershot Garrison, working with soldiers and their families
from November 2000 to April 2001. She produced a series of documentary
photographs of life at the garrison and also worked with soldiers
and groups in the community to create installation work using
photography and new media, exploring life in the military community
and identity of the individuals inside uniforms.
The project culminated in an exhibition of photographs
and other works created during the project at the West End Centre
who had supported and administrated the project along with Rushmoor
Borough Council. The Aldershot Military Museum also used many
of the photographs to begin an archive of contemporary life
in the military.
